Adroa, the distant and transcendent aspect of divinity, and Adro, its immanent and immediate aspect present in streams, groves and the ordinary world, together forming the single divinity of Lugbara religion among the Lugbara of northwestern Uganda and the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. This pairing of a remote and a near divine aspect, rather than a family of separate gods, was documented by mid twentieth century British social anthropology as a structural feature distinguishing Lugbara belief from many of its Nilotic and Central Sudanic neighbours.
