Rome

Also Known As Roma Capitale
Europe

Rome is used here for the city itself, the capital of Italy on the Tiber in the central-western Italian Peninsula, which the source calls one of the cradles of Western civilization and Western Christian culture and the centre of the Catholic Church. Vatican City, an independent country, lies within its municipal boundaries. The article dates the history of the city across 28 centuries, with Roman mythology placing its founding at around 753 BC. Rites, orders, denominations and figures are placed here when the atlas records them as arising in the city, whether in its ancient religion or in the Church that grew up there.
