All Bulb Plants

Plants whose useful or sacred part is an underground bulb, a layered storage organ that grows into a new plant each season, here garlic and onion, which appear in the protective customs, kitchens and medicines of many traditions. A plant belongs here when its cited plant database page gives its growth form as a bulb. It excludes the plants valued for a true root or rhizome, such as valerian and kava. The bulb is both food and charm in many cultures, hung on doors, carried in pockets and eaten at feasts, and the shared form is what groups these two together for the reader.
