African Cosmology of the Bantu-Kongo: Principles of Life and Living

Kimbwandende Kia Bunseki Fu-Kiau was a Mukongo scholar and initiated tradition bearer of the Lower Congo, and this book is his own exposition of Kongo cosmology, the dikenga cosmogram and its four moments, musoni, kala, tukula and luvemba, written from inside the Bantu-Kongo tradition rather than as an outside observer. As a custodian account by a recognized tradition bearer, verified as a genuine and still widely cited work, it is the correct source for how the Bakongo themselves understand this cosmology. Its limit is that it presents the tradition's own framework rather than testing it against outside historical or comparative religious scholarship, so a claim situating Kongo cosmology within wider African religious history needs an additional comparative source.
