Al-Tabarsi's Al-Ihtijaj (The Book of Disputation), a twelfth century Shia compilation of arguments and sermons defending the Imams' cause, preserves the fullest text of the Khutbat al-Fadakiyya, the sermon on inheritance and leadership attributed to Fatimah after her father's death. Its strength is that it is the classical source within the Shia tradition for her recorded words on the succession dispute. Its limit is that it was compiled some three centuries after Fatimah's lifetime, from a chain of transmission the tradition itself preserves rather than an independent contemporary record, and it is principally studied in the original Arabic, with only partial published English translation.
