Al Jazeera's 17 October 2018 report on the Bangkok Criminal Court's sentencing of Wirapol Sukphol, the former monk known as Luang Pu Nen Kham Chattiko, to 16 years in prison (8 years each for child abduction and rape) for abducting and repeatedly raping a girl aged 13 to 14 in Si Sa Ket province between January 2000 and mid 2001. DNA evidence, taken from a cigarette he had smoked, matched both his own DNA and that of the child he fathered with her. The sentence was added to a separate 114 year sentence (capped at 20 years under Thai law) handed down in August 2018 for fraud, money laundering and computer crimes, arising from his "jet-set monk" scandal.
