Anton LaVey (reference article)

The Wikipedia article on Anton LaVey is a community edited encyclopedic account of the founder of the Church of Satan, covering his self promoted biography, the church's 1966 founding and LaVey's own published writings including The Satanic Bible. Its strength is that a well developed Wikipedia article on a documented public figure of LaVey's notoriety draws together journalistic investigation and church sources into one accessible account, and it is specifically useful here because LaVey's own public claims about his early life, carnival work, lion taming, an affair with Marilyn Monroe, have been directly investigated and substantially debunked by biographers, a correction the article itself carries. Its limit is that Wikipedia is a continuously and anonymously editable reference rather than a peer reviewed source, so a claim resting on LaVey's actual theological system rather than his contested biography needs his own published writings or a dedicated scholarly study of the Church of Satan. Facts
Assessment
Reliability Tier
3
Wikipedia's community maintained article on Anton LaVey is a continuously revised tertiary encyclopedia entry with no named author or peer review process, hence the lower tier, though useful here for corrections to LaVey's own self-promoted biography.
Notes
Wikipedia's article on Anton LaVey. A perpetually community-edited reference page rather than a peer-reviewed publication; use for standard, uncontroversial facts about Anton LaVey (biographical detail, dates, common definitions), not as the source for a contested or specialist scholarly claim.
