Prayers for God's Blessing for Same-Sex Couples Take Step Forward After Synod Debate (Church of England)

The Church of England's own press release on the General Synod's 8 to 9 February 2023 debate, in which Synod voted to welcome the Prayers of Love and Faith texts and called on the House of Bishops to refine and commend them, voting by house: Bishops 36 for, 4 against, 2 abstaining; Clergy 111 for, 85 against, 3 abstaining; Laity 103 for, 92 against, 5 abstaining. The motion as amended explicitly endorsed "the decision of the College and House of Bishops not to propose any change to the doctrine of marriage," and specified the prayers "should not be contrary to or indicative of a departure from the doctrine of the Church of England." Synod members also voted to lament and repent of the Church's failure to welcome LGBTQI+ people.
