Peter Abelard's Commentary on Paul's Epistle to the Romans, Commentaria in Epistolam Pauli ad Romanos, is a primary medieval theological text; the atlas assigns it no single year because the manuscripts themselves do not settle one, placing it within Abelard's later teaching career. Its strength is that it is the primary source itself for his moral influence account of the atonement, set out in his excursus on Romans 3:26 rather than in a separate treatise, so the argument has to be read in its original commentary context to be understood correctly. Its limit is the ordinary one for citing a medieval commentary without specifying a critical edition: this record does not establish which edition underlies a given quotation from it.
