Explained: The Durgah Khwaja Saheb Act, 1955, of Ajmer Dargah

Explainer Article

A July 2025 eSamskriti explainer by chartered accountant Sanjeev Nayyar describing the Durgah Khwaja Saheb Act, 1955, under which the Durgah Committee, Ajmer, comprises nine Hanafi Muslim members appointed by the central government, with an IAS-officer Nazim as CEO. Notes accounts are centrally audited annually with reports published in the Official Gazette, that the Dargah is exempt from the Waqf Act, and contrasts its reported 2017 income of about 5.63 crore rupees with the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board's 683 crore rupees in 2023-24.
