A two-volume academic dictionary of Greek etymology (Brill, 2010), completed by Lucien van Beek from Robert Beekes' unfinished manuscript after his death. Its distinguishing scholarly contribution is a systematic identification of a large stratum of Greek vocabulary, including many personal and mythological names, as Pre-Greek: words with no successful derivation from Proto-Indo-European roots, inherited instead from a substrate language spoken in the Aegean before Greek arrived.
