Four Hundred Years with the Ausbund, by Paul M. Yoder, Elizabeth Bender, Harvey Graber and Nelson P. Springer, published by Herald Press in 1964, is a scholarly study of the printing history, authorship and continued liturgical use of the Ausbund, the oldest hymnal still in regular use among the Amish, first printed in the sixteenth century. Its strength is that it is a carefully researched academic monograph produced by scholars working within the Mennonite and Anabaptist historical tradition it documents. Its limit is that it covers the hymnal's history up to its own 1964 publication, so a claim about the Ausbund's use in more recent decades needs a source addressing that later period.
