Seventh-day Adventist Church

The Seventh-day Adventist Church's own historical encyclopedia documents the 1888 General Conference session at Minneapolis, Minnesota, 17 October to 4 November, called principally over tariff policy on denominational literature, at which Ellet J. Waggoner and Alonzo T. Jones pressed righteousness by faith against resistance from General Conference president George I. Butler and Review and Herald editor Uriah Smith, with Ellen G. White backing the emphasis while distancing herself from disputed details of their argument, and records the session's slow and uneven acceptance in the years that followed.
