Peter H. Wilson's Heart of Europe, published by the Belknap Press of Harvard University Press in 2016, is a comprehensive scholarly history of the Holy Roman Empire from its medieval origins to its dissolution in 1806. Wilson is an established historian of early modern Europe. Its strength is that it is a peer-reviewed university press synthesis widely reviewed as the standard modern one-volume history of the Empire.
