Hosay Trinidad: Muharram Performances in an Indo Caribbean Diaspora, Frank J. Korom's 2003 scholarly study from the University of Pennsylvania Press, is the first detailed historical and ethnographic study of Hosay in Trinidad, covering its origin among Indian indentured labourers, the tadjah and moons, the mixed Hindu, Muslim and Afro Trinidadian participation, and the 1884 Hosay Riots. Its strength is that it is squarely the fact's own subject, the first study of its kind. Its limit is that it focuses on Trinidad specifically; other Caribbean Hosay or Muharram traditions need separate sourcing.
