IICSA's first Anglican Church report, "The Anglican Church Case Studies: the Diocese of Chichester and the response to allegations against Peter Ball," published 9 May 2019, a 252 page report examining the Diocese of Chichester's wider safeguarding culture and, as its central case study, the Church of England's decades-long response to allegations against Peter Ball, successively Bishop of Lewes and Bishop of Gloucester. It found the Church had put its own reputation above the needs of Ball's victims, citing a serious failure of leadership by then Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey among others. This atlas does not adopt any single figure for the diocese-wide clergy conviction count the report also examines, since the secondary reporting on that broader figure is inconsistent across outlets; it records only the Ball case study's own well corroborated facts, in the Peter Ball conviction entity linked below.

Reliability Tier1
Tier 1: the same UK statutory public inquiry as source 1. The publication date, page count and headline finding are corroborated by three independent secondary accounts (Religion Media Centre's factsheet, Thinking Anglicans' report of the launch, and VWV solicitors' legal-analysis blog), all agreeing on the 9 May 2019 date and the Ball case-study framing. NotesChecked 14 August 2026, cross-checked against three independent secondary accounts. The Inquiry's own page could not be reached directly for this reading.
