Incidents in My Life, Daniel Dunglas Home's own 1863 memoir published by Longman, Green, is a primary text in which the celebrated nineteenth century Spiritualist medium recounts his own mediumship and the seances and investigations conducted around him. Its authority is that of the practitioner's own firsthand account of his own career, valuable precisely as his own self-presentation. Its limit is total: it is one interested party's own version of a career whose central claims, of levitation and other phenomena, remain a disputed historical question between Spiritualist and skeptical accounts. Cite it for Home's own stated version of events; the authenticity question itself needs an independent historical study.
