JTA: Lanner Gets 7-Year Prison Term

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency's report, published 11 October 2002, on Judge Paul Chaiet's sentencing of Baruch Lanner, on 4 October 2002 at Monmouth County Superior Court in Freehold, New Jersey, to seven years in a New Jersey state prison against a possible maximum of 20 years; the defence had asked for four years. The article quotes the judge holding Lanner deserved incarceration "for abusing his position and inflicting emotional trauma on both these girls," and reports Lanner would become subject to New Jersey's Megan's Law sex-offender registration on release, becoming parole-eligible after roughly one year and ten months. The article also reports Lanner told the court he is "not a monster" and acknowledged errors in judgment, stopping short of an apology to the girls.
