Simon Martin and Nikolai Grube's Chronicle of the Maya Kings and Queens, now in its second edition, is the standard synthesis of Classic Maya dynastic history, reconstructing city by city sequences of rulers, their reigns and their recorded political and ritual acts from the hieroglyphic monuments the rulers themselves commissioned. Its account of Yaxchilan draws on the site's own lintels and stelae, cross checked against the wider corpus of deciphered Maya inscriptions, to establish dates, names and relationships that individual monuments alone leave incomplete.

Reliability Tier1
Tier 1: an academic synthesis by two leading Maya epigraphers, cross checked against the primary hieroglyphic corpus rather than a single monument or site. NotesStandard academic reference for Classic Maya political and dynastic history, used here for the reign dates, dynastic relationships and monument context of Yaxchilan, Itzamnaaj Bahlam III and Lady Xoc. Tier 1, a peer reputable academic synthesis by two leading epigraphers, cross referencing primary hieroglyphic monuments against the wider deciphered corpus rather than relying on a single source.
