Metallic Phase with Long Range Orientational Order and No Translational Symmetry, D. Shechtman, I. Blech, D. Gratias and J. W. Cahn's 1984 paper in Physical Review Letters, is the original report of an aluminium manganese alloy showing icosahedral point group symmetry with no translational periodicity, the discovery of quasicrystals; Shechtman received the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for this work. Its strength is that it is the original peer reviewed discovery paper behind a Nobel Prize winning finding.
