Aston's is a classic late nineteenth century scholarly English translation of the Nihon Shoki, Japan's second oldest chronicle and, alongside the Kojiki, a foundational text for early Japanese history and Shinto mythology, made directly from the Japanese text by a specialist in Japanese language and history.
