Nova Gigantomachia, an account of the siege of Jasna Gora, Augustyn Kordecki's 1657 chronicle, is the prior of Jasna Gora Monastery's own eyewitness record of the 1655 Swedish siege that Polish Catholic tradition credits to the Virgin Mary's protection. Its strength is that it is a firsthand participant's account, close in time to the events it records. Its limit is that it is a participant's own chronicle written to honor the monastery's deliverance, not an independent scholarly history of the siege, which should be checked against separate historical assessment.

Facts
Assessment
Reliability Tier
3
Augustyn Kordecki's Nova Gigantomachia, the lower tier reflecting that it is a participant's own chronicle written to honor the monastery's deliverance rather than independent scholarly history, weighed against its value as a firsthand eyewitness account close in time to the 1655 siege it records.
Notes
Augustyn Kordecki's own eyewitness account of the 1655 siege of Jasna Gora Monastery, 1657; a participant's chronicle, not independent scholarly history.
