The canonized text of Wilford Woodruff's Manifesto, issued 24 September 1890 and formally accepted by the Church membership in General Conference on 6 October 1890, declaring "We are not teaching polygamy or plural marriage, nor permitting any person to enter into its practice," and advising members to refrain from any marriage forbidden by the law of the land.
