Philippine Folk Literature: The Myths

Damiana L. Eugenio edited this University of the Philippines Press volume, part of her multi volume Philippine Folk Literature series, gathering and translating creation and origin myths from across the Philippine archipelago. Its strength is that Eugenio was the foundational scholar of Philippine folklore, and the series remains the standard scholarly compilation drawing together myths otherwise scattered across many regional and colonial era sources. Its limit is that it is a compilation gathering and translating existing material rather than a comparative analysis of the myths' meaning or relationships to each other, so a claim needing that interpretive analysis needs a separate scholarly study of Philippine mythology.
