Religions of Mesoamerica, 2nd edition

David Carrasco's survey is now in a second edition, revised since its original publication to incorporate developments in Mesoamerican studies, covering Aztec and wider Mesoamerican religion from the archaeological and textual record. That sustained revision across editions is real, checkable evidence the work keeps being judged worth updating rather than left as a fixed older account. This record has not independently traced further scholarly disagreement with Carrasco's specific claims since the second edition. Use it for established scholarly facts about Aztec and Mesoamerican religion broadly; a claim specific to one Mesoamerican culture's own distinct practice, as opposed to Aztec practice, may need a source focused on that culture.
