The Salesians of Don Bosco's own published account of its safeguarding program in the United States. Its Safe Children Policy directs, on any report of the sexual abuse of a minor, immediate reporting to law enforcement, immediate restriction of the accused pending investigation, pastoral and therapeutic assistance to the person harmed, and referral to the Salesian Review Board. All members are mandatory reporters regardless of when the conduct occurred. Policies and procedures are accredited by Praesidium Inc, a national organization that sets and monitors child protection standards for religious institutions, and multiple US provinces hold Praesidium Accreditation. Novices undergo psychological and sexual assessment, social media and criminal background checks, as part of formation.
