Voted by the Annual Council of the General Conference Executive Committee on 17 October 2012 in Silver Spring, Maryland, by hand vote of more than 200 pastors, lay people and denominational workers, reaffirming that marriage is "a lifelong union between a man and a woman in loving companionship" and that the celebration of same-sex unions is not sanctioned by the Church, while stating that "all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, are loved by God" and calling for Christ-like compassion toward LGBT individuals.
