Selected Writings of Jose Miguel de Barandiaran: Basque Prehistory and Ethnography, Center for Basque Studies Press 2007, is the English translation of Barandiaran's own twentieth century folklore collection, including a dedicated Basque mythology section covering Mari, Sugaar and related figures. Its strength is that it is the primary ethnographic corpus itself, in scholarly translation from an academic press. Its limit is that it covers the folklore collection specifically; a separate authority is needed for the Basque witch trial history, which this record does not cover.

Reliability Tier1
Reliability tier 1: a scholarly translation from the Center for Basque Studies Press, University of Nevada Reno, Basque Classics Series, presenting the primary ethnographic corpus itself in academic translation. NotesEnglish translation of Barandiaran's Basque ethnographic writings, including a dedicated Basque Mythology section (Magic and The Myths). The twentieth century folklore collection the atlas attributes to Barandiaran for the pre-Christian Basque material (Mari, Sugaar and the subordinate beings) is exactly this corpus. Scope note: covers the folklore-collection half of the Basque religion article; the Salazar Frias witch-trial half is a separate authority, catalogued on its own.
