Style Guide, The Name of the Church (Newsroom)

The Style Guide entry on The Name of the Church, published on the Newsroom of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2018, is the church's own official naming guidance, issued following President Russell M. Nelson's public statement, asking that the church's full name be used and that the shorthand terms Mormon and LDS be retired. As the church's own custodial statement about its preferred name, it is fully authoritative for what the church itself asks and why, which is exactly the fact this atlas cites it for. It does not settle whether the shorthand terms remain in wide external use regardless, a separate, ongoing usage question needing its own source.
