A statement released 9 August 2011 by Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw following the conviction and sentencing of Warren Steed Jeffs, president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), on one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of sexual assault of a child, for which he received a punishment of life imprisonment on the first count and 20 years on the second. The statement records that seven other FLDS members had by that date been convicted of the sexual assault of children in the same investigation, with sentences ranging from six to 75 years, and names the agencies that investigated: DPS, the Texas Rangers, the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Schleicher County Sheriff, the 51st Judicial District Attorney, the San Angelo FBI office and Child Protective Services.
