The Bab (Wikipedia)

Wikipedia

Wikipedia's article on the Bab, born Siyyid Ali-Muhammad Shirazi, community-edited. Reliable for the declaration of his mission on the night of 22 to 23 May 1844 in Shiraz, then part of Persia and in present day Iran: when the young cleric Mulla Husayn came seeking a teacher, the Bab declared himself the bearer of new divine revelation, and Mulla Husayn became his first follower. Within five months seventeen more disciples of the late Kazim Rashti recognized him the same way; together the eighteen became known as the Letters of the Living. The movement the Bab founded, the Babi Faith, is the direct forerunner from which the Baha'i Faith later emerged under Baha'u'llah.
