The Beginnings of DIA

This is the Defense Intelligence Agency's own institutional history page describing its own founding and early years, published on the agency's official website. As the agency's own account of itself it is the correct and authoritative source for what the DIA states about its own founding, organizational structure and self understanding, comparable to any government agency's own official history page. Its limit is exactly that self authorship, an institutional self account written for public communication purposes rather than an independent historian's or investigative study, so a claim about the DIA's founding administrative facts is well supported here while a claim requiring outside scrutiny or a more critical historical assessment of the agency's activities needs an independent scholarly or journalistic source in addition.
