The Mandaean Book of John: Critical Edition, Translation and Commentary, edited and translated by Charles G. Haberl and James F. McGrath, De Gruyter 2020, is the first English-language critical edition of this Mandaean scripture devoted to Yahya Yuhana. Its strength is that it is a peer-reviewed critical edition from a major academic publisher, more specific and more current than the general account already in the catalogue. Its limit is that Mandaic textual scholarship is a small specialist field, so a claim resting on a disputed reading should note that few independent scholars work directly with the language.
