The Nanakshahi calendar, devised by Pal Singh Purewal and adopted by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the elected body governing major Sikh gurdwaras, in 1999, amended in 2003 and substantially reversed toward traditional Bikrami calculation in 2010, is the Panth's own adopted liturgical calendar. As the SGPC's own published calendar, it is authoritative for what that body has adopted at any given time, which is the fact this atlas cites it for. The calendar remains genuinely disputed within Sikhism, and different Sikh bodies today publish different calendars, so a claim about which calendar Sikhs generally follow should not be read as settled by this one adoption alone.
