Stephanie W. Jamison and Joel P. Brereton translated the complete Rigveda directly from the Sanskrit, with an introduction to every hymn, superseding older nineteenth and early twentieth century translations that scholars had continued using for lack of a more current complete alternative. That it replaced the working standard translation, rather than merely being one option among equals, is real evidence of its standing in the field. This record has not independently traced a documented history of scholarly disagreement with specific verse renderings. Use it for the Gayatri verse, the Purusha and Nasadiya suktas, the opening Agni hymn and other passages drawn directly from this translation.
