The Zarathushti World, A Demographic Picture, compiled by Roshan Rivetna and published through the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America, is the community's own worldwide demographic survey, conducted in 2012 to mark FEZANA's twenty fifth anniversary and compared against an earlier 2004 survey, covering twenty five countries plus every US state and Canadian province. As a federation commissioned self-count rather than an outside academic census, it is the best and only systematic attempt at a global Zoroastrian population figure that exists, which is why this atlas relies on it for that number. FEZANA's own published material describes the survey candidly as a magazine style compilation drawing on varied local reporting rather than a statistically rigorous census, so its country by country figures, and the population range they produce, carry real margins of error the federation itself acknowledges rather than presenting as an exact count.
