Albrecht Durer's own 1525 geometry manual, printed at Nuremberg, is a primary source in the artist's own words and diagrams. Its strength is that it records exactly what Durer himself worked out and taught, including his approximate compass constructions for the heptagon and the nonagon. Its limit is that these are practical approximations for artists and craftsmen, not mathematically exact constructions, and Durer says so himself.
