The State Department's 2023 report on Burkina Faso documents militant Islamist groups killing imams, clergy and worshippers while attacking and destroying mosques, churches and traditional places of worship as they besieged dozens of towns and took control of more than half the country's territory, and records that hundreds of churches closed under this pressure, three of the six parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Dori among them, with 31 Christians killed for their faith between October 2022 and September 2023.
