The Vita Norberti, a near-contemporary Latin life of Norbert of Xanten surviving in two medieval recensions, is translated into English by Theodore Antry and Carol Neel in the Classics of Western Spirituality series. Its strength is that it was composed within a generation of Norbert's death by members of the Premonstratensian order he founded. Its limit is that, like most medieval vitae, it was written to promote its subject's sanctity and the standing of his order rather than as neutral biography.
