From 19 to 24 October 2025, the Methodist Roman Catholic International Commission held the fourth annual meeting of its twelfth round of dialogue in San Salvador, El Salvador, co-chaired by the Reverend Professor Edgardo Colon-Emeric for the Methodist side and Archbishop Shane Mackinlay for the Catholic side. The commission, the standing bilateral dialogue between the World Methodist Council and the Catholic Church since 1967, reviewed a draft report on discerning the essentials of Christian faith and the practice of unity and diversity between the two traditions, with a chapter of recommendations for deepening the communion the two churches already share. Delegates also received a progress report on a synthesis volume marking sixty years of the dialogue, timed to the seventeen hundredth anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, and visited sites associated with the martyred Archbishop Oscar Romero.
