Gathers the seventh century Arab conquests that carried early Islam out of Arabia into Egypt, the Levant, Persia, North Africa and Iberia, the internal fitna and Kharijite civil wars that divided the early Muslim community over succession and doctrine, the medieval Nizari-Seljuk conflict, and the later jihad and reform movements, Sokoto, the Mahdist state, Macina and Padri, that carried militant Islamic reform into West Africa and Southeast Asia under colonial-era pressure. A member belongs here for being fought to expand, defend or reform the House of Islam on its own participants' own religious terms.
