Mwari, a Shona creator and rain god associated above all with the Matopos Hills shrine of Njelele in what is now Zimbabwe, where mediums have carried petitions to Mwari for generations. The thinness here reflects how far this atlas's coverage has reached rather than the size of Shona religious tradition, which recognizes ancestral spirits and regional cults alongside Mwari.
