Hounds pairs Cerberus, the three headed guardian of the Greek underworld, with the Cu Sith, a great green hound of Scottish and Irish folklore said to hunt across the hills at night. Both are supernatural dogs of considerable size and menace, but they come from unrelated mythologies and serve different functions, one a gatekeeper of the dead, the other an omen on the moor.
