The formal ministerial roles of Konkokyo, the Japanese new religion founded by the farmer Kawate Bunjiro in 1859 after he came to serve as mediator of the deity Tenchi Kane no Kami. A kyoshi is an ordained Konkokyo minister, serving at one of the religion's roughly 1,550 churches and performing toritsugi, the practice of receiving a visitor's trouble in person and conveying it in mediation between the person and Tenchi Kane no Kami, continuing the founder's own original practice.
