Roles within the state religion of ancient Rome, currently represented by the Vestal Virgin, one of the priestesses who tended the sacred fire of Vesta under a vow of chastity for a fixed term of service. The category covers the office as historically attested rather than any modern revival. Excludes roles from other Mediterranean or Greco-Roman traditions, which are grouped under their own tradition specific clusters.
