Communal Rituals

Communal Rituals groups practices whose primary function is to bind a group together, mark rank and welcome guests, rather than to mark an individual's life stage, purify, or petition a specific outcome, the jobs the type's other categories cover. The kava ceremony, the shared preparation and drinking of a beverage from pounded Piper methysticum root across much of the Pacific, opens communication with ancestors and gods as a side effect of the gathering itself, not as its stated purpose.
