Samaritan Sites

Sites significant to Samaritan religion, a tradition closely related to but distinct from Judaism, with its own version of the Torah and its own claim to the correct site of the central sanctuary, a claim that has historically put it at odds with mainstream Jewish tradition. Sacred sites are grouped by tradition at a fine grain here, so a heading can be narrow without that saying anything about the tradition's own reach.

What Defines This Grouping
The sacred geography of the Samaritans, who hold Mount Gerizim, and not Jerusalem, to be the place God chose. This is not a variant of the Jewish claim but a rival reading of the same Torah, held continuously by a very small community that is still there. 2
