Shingon Buddhism sites cover the esoteric Japanese Buddhist school founded by Kukai, kept distinct from the general Buddhist grouping the way Tendai and Theravada already are, because Shingon's Vajrayana ritual practice and its own mountain monastic centers give it a sacred geography that does not overlap cleanly with other Japanese Buddhist schools.
