History

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was founded in London in 1888 by William Wynn Westcott, Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers and William Robert Woodman, and it is the source of the single cross-referenced correspondence table this report item works from, joining several separate vocabularies this atlas already describes on their own pages, the Kabbalistic sephiroth and paths, the tarot's twenty two trump keys, the planets, signs and decans of astrology, into one interlocking system, alongside further layers of Hebrew and Greek letters, four elemental ceremonial weapons and four color scales assigned across the Tree.

Aleister Crowley, an early member of the Golden Dawn before the order underwent well documented internal schisms around 1900, published the fullest and most widely used tabular presentation of the whole correspondence system in 1909 under the title 777, which remains the standard published reference for the table today, cited by ceremonial magicians well outside Crowley's own later organizations.
