Divinity Atlas
The Left-Hand Path, LaVey and Aquino
This report item reads the same Tree as the Kabbalah section, from the reverse side: the qliphoth as shells shadowing each sephirah, and the adversarial figures, Lucifer, Set, Lilith, the current claims. A reading traces where a chart sits on that inverted map and what each shell is said to hold.
History
The term "Left-Hand Path" itself originates in older Tantric Hindu vocabulary, vamachara, transgressive left-hand practice, set against dakshinachara, orthodox right-hand practice, a distinct and separate Hindu usage this page names as its own separate origin rather than folding into the modern Western current below. That modern Western current is substantially defined by two documented founding figures a few decades apart. Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan in 1966 and published The Satanic Bible in 1969, presenting an explicitly atheistic and symbolic Satanism that reads Satan as an archetype of pride and individualism rather than as a literal being to be worshipped. Michael Aquino, a former Church of Satan member, founded the Temple of Set in 1975 in a documented split from LaVey's organization, centering the Egyptian deity Set, described on this atlas's own page for that deity, reframed by the Temple as an archetype of separate, isolate self-consciousness rather than read as the Christian devil.
This report item's own description names Lucifer, Set and Lilith as the adversarial figures "the current claims" for, and this page follows that language precisely: these are the modern current's own symbolic and archetypal readings of older figures, presented here as claims the tradition makes, not asserted by this atlas as historical or metaphysical fact.
How A Reading Is Constructed
A reading traces where a chart sits on the qliphothic map the Demonology page already describes, the ten shells read here from the same reverse-Tree perspective, and names what each shell is said to hold under the current's own reading, alongside which of the three named adversarial figures a chart's placements are read as answering to.
